Entrepreneurs – How good were those networking events in May?

Regular readers of the this blog will recall that at the beginning of May we listed all the networking events that we were attending and promised to write a summary of each and award marks out of ten etc. Well, this is that post with our honest appraisal.

Below you will find a list of the events plus our review in terms of usefulness or ‘return on attendance’. If you attended any of the events or you’d just like to let us know your views on the networking scene, please feel free to leave your comments.

1. May 8th – After Work Hours – Business Networking at Nomad Bar, Old Street, London

Verdict – £5 admission with a free alcoholic drink means that it is definitely a value for money event. Relevance of attendees for our business sector so-so. Score 6.5 out of 10. Attend again? Yes.

2. May 10th – Entrepreneur Connect at Adam Street Private Members Club, London

Verdict – £15.00 admission (early bird) High calibre attendees for networking including potential clients and headline sponsor (www.Borro.com) with film crew in attendance. Free soft drinks available and a pay bar for alcoholic drinks. Score 9 out of 10. Attend again? Yes.

3. May 14th – Please leave your phones on! – Institute of Directors, 116 Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5ED

Verdict – £35.00 admission. Grandiose setting, free flowing refreshments – good standard of attendees but not potential clients for our business – Score 6.5 out of 10. Attend again? No.

4. May 17th – 18th May – Business Start Up Show, Excel London
Verdict – Free admission – disparate attendees in terms of business stage and experience. Score 5 out of 10. Attend again? No.

5. May 23rd – Use Technology To Boost Your Business, London Evening Standard Business Connections, Westminster, London.

Verdict – Free to members (annual membership £40). The best standard of presenters, attendees and refreshments of all the events. Really good networking opportunities including with potential clients. Score – 10 out of 10. A clear Gold medal winner. Attend again? Yes.

6. May 29th – 2012 Annual RareWorld Summer Networking Party

Verdict – £10 admission. Venue was not great – one area in a public bar and no microphone for presenters. Relevance of attendees was pretty good. Refreshment – no free refreshments available for attendees but there were free cakes and a pay bar . Score 6.5 out of 10. Attend again? No.
